Secret Sardinia

“Our Sardinia Story” — An Irish Couple Finds a Second Home in the Mediterranean

Lorraine & Brian, Irish buyers: why Sardinia won us over — easy European access, stunning beaches beyond the celebrity scene, and a community that feels like home.

Sunshine Beyond the Smeralda Stereotype

With easy flight connections from major European cities, we wanted a warm, authentic escape. Sardinia delivered more than we expected. If you only associate the island with the celebrity sparkle of Costa Smeralda, think again: the true magic lives in lesser-known coastal towns where you still get turquoise water, quiet coves, and pristine beaches — minus the crowds.

Community You Can Belong To

After settling into our apartment, we found ourselves welcomed into a friendly Sardinian community — the kind that reminds us of how home used to feel. Sure, you can brush shoulders with the jet set, but nothing beats sharing a long lunch with new friends where food is celebration and conversation flows.

Slow Food, Local Wine, Real Wellbeing

To appreciate Sardinia is to slow down. Think slow-food trattorie, family recipes, and Cannonau or Vermentino poured from local vineyards. Life feels healthier and calmer here — less stress, more sunshine, and a culture that values good food, good company, and quick wit.

Why We’d Recommend Sardinia to Irish Buyers

  • Quick access from Europe, with connections via major hubs
  • Top-class beaches and scenery beyond the high-gloss hotspots
  • Warm, safe communities that make second-home living feel natural
  • A lifestyle that’s good for body and soul

Getting from Ireland to Sardinia

Getting there is easy: from April to October, Ryanair typically operates non-stop routes from Ireland to Sardinia — including Dublin–Olbia, Dublin–Alghero, Dublin–Cagliari, and Cork–Alghero — so Costa Smeralda and Gallura are just a short flight away.
(Schedules can change, so always check live timetables when booking.)
